Day 21 – Entering the NT

Outback Qld CloncurryToday Glenn and the support crew crossed from Queensland into the Northern Territory. Another milestone in this massive ride and brings an end to his journey through Queensland.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Australian landscape, this part of the world is what we call the ‘outback’, as close to desert as you can get, as you can see from the pictures. Glenn is riding on long, straight stretches of road in 30°C+ heat during the main part of the day. But he is making good time and is in good spirits. He is anticipating arriving in Darwin a day early so that he can have a day off and still be on schedule. Probably well-needed and certainly well-deserved!

Outback Qld Rapha rideToday Glenn did a huge 311kms and tonight he is camped about 400kms west of Mount Isa. He and the crew have very poor reception on their mobile phones so details are a bit sketchy but rest-assured they are safe and hoping to put in another big day tomorrow.

If you’re not following Glenn on strava.com then here are some maps of his ride since the last update. We don’t have any data for tonight but hopefully he will be able to upload tomorrow.

Glenn has had his son, Ryan, and a good friend from Canada, Lee Keller, as support crew since Townsville. Glenn is always encouraged by having good friends and family around so this is helping him through this demanding stage of the ride. Ryan posted this beautiful panoramic picture of the Northern Territory border which is worth sharing.

And a final reminder that the Cervélo bike that Glenn has been riding is up for auction. Cervélo donated the bike to Ride With No Limits and all the proceeds from the auction will go to Emma and her goal to represent Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
